Falcarragh 2014 - Day Two (part one)

Day Two in Falcarragh began, in true Band tradition, as the morning after the night before. The bravest of our merry troupe rose at dawn to walk down to the beach for a dip in the Atlantic ocean.

Others opted for a healthy start to the day, with a coffee and a bacon sandwich or even a full English (or Irish?), kindly provided by the local café.

Remorse ridden, the bacon butty brigade finally set off for the beach, where, as you will see in the photos below, some of us chose to take to the waters wearing our Sumo costumes hoping to be selected for the eagerly anticipated Sumo wrestling competition scheduled to take place later in the day.

The walk back to town took us along the beautiful Donegal coastline and over dunes which, without the slightest exaggeration (honestly!) would have been a challenge to Lawrence of Arabia. Fortunately for some (or, in truth, to one, and we'll leave you guess who), a couple who had just driven into Falcarragh from Belfast for the festival kindly provided a lift up to the town centre, much to the relief of the bandsman in question!

Back in town, the other bandsmen were heading off for lunch at Barry's auntie's house. Auntie Maureen had a prepared a feast fit for a king, and welcomed us all into her home to enjoy the delicious dishes, delightful conversation and a sense of hospitality which touched us all. Our heartfelt thanks to Maureen for a truly memorable moment spent in her company.

After lunch, we headed back to the Shamrock for a relaxing afternoon before our next scheduled performance, a piper's progress taking in all the public houses in the town.

But more about that in Day Two - Part Two. Watch this space for more info - there may be photos...
