More Fianna Phadraig Hidden Talents - Big Vern and Blue Swamp Band

The Band is proud to have in its ranks a number of talented musicians whose scope extends beyond the realms of the piping world

When Colin Seymour joined the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band in 2013, little did we know that we were gaining not only a talented multi-instrumentalist (bagpipes, side drum and bass drum), but also a guy who is something of a figure on the North-West blues scene.

When Colin takes off his @FiannaPhadraig cap, his alter ego, Big Vern, dons his Tubeteika and takes Colin / Vernto the stage as drummer, percussionist and vocalist with Blue Swamp Band.

Blue Swamp Band, as their name suggests, have their roots firmly planted in the blues, with their original songs - penned by songwriting duo Johnny ‘Guitar’ Williamson, former guitarist with “The Animals and Friends”, and Mike Bowden, vocalist with Dr Truth - encompassing elements from a variety of genres. Their unique sound is enhanced by a red hot rhythm section featuring Big Vern (Colin Seymour, to us!) on the Drums and Jim Moseley on the Bass.

Drawing on all four musicians' talents as vocalists in their own right, Blue Swamp Band are unique on the blues scene with their 4-part harmonies.

They have played all the major UK festivals, as well as shows in Italy and Sweden. The video above was filmed during Blue Swamp Band's performance of a "perverted gospel" number, "Jesus Walks on the Water, But I Crawl on the Wine", at Skegness Rock & Blues on 27th January 2013.
